Wilayat of Taqah is the 2nd largest city in Dhofar Governorate located on the southwest part of Oman. This province holds the famous Taqah Castle which is an important touristic site as part of Oman Excursions and Oman Archaeological tours. The place provides various touristic attractions and is known for its grass lands and wide wadis. Wadi Darbat in the wilayat of Taqah – Dohfar is quite spectacular and is famous for its unspoilt nature, visible botanical cover and natural springs. This area is also blessed with various caves including the famous Teeq cave considered one of the important caves in Oman.
Taqah Castle is the proof of Oman’s past legacy and is a must see location as part of south of Oman Tours. The castle was built in 19th century which makes it relatively as new compared various forts and castles in north of Oman. When it was built it used to be the private home of a tribal leader Sheikh Ali Bin Taman Al Mashani, grandfather of mother of Sultan Qaboos in Said. Taqah castle is located approximately 33 kms east of Salalah. This castle becomes the property of Sultan Said bin Taimour, the father of late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. The Castle went for renovation in the year 1960 and opened to public as a Museum in the year 1994. The rooms in the Castle are filled with ancient weapons used by Omanis, Omani Jewelleries, furniture’s, paintings, etc. The castle has ground and first floor and is opened Saturday to Thursday.
Taqah Cliff is another important site which is located at the end of Taqah beach and provided panoramic view of the great Arabian Sea. Taqah Beach attracts lots of tourists visiting Oman due to its mesmerizing landscape and is also famous for the visibility of sea turtles.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has announced the closure of Taqah Castle for maintenance. We will keep you updated the status
